year old Chris Garnes was born on May 23, 1987.
He is the son of Kim and Glendal Garnes and the
younger brother of Felicia Garnes. He is a native
of Evans, WV where he and his family still reside.
Chris also has a la rge
family consisting of six uncles, two aunts, and
many cousins who are some of his biggest fans and
supporters.
Outside
of blood relatives Chris is blessed to have Art
and Rita Schiefer supporting him. Art is not only
one of his biggest fans but also is part of his
pit crew. Rita is also one of Chris’s biggest
fans and attends races whenever possible and also
makes some awesome baked goods. The most recent
addition in Chris’s life came nearly three
years ago when he met his girlfriend Kristen Casto
who has been and continues to be another big supporter
and fan.
Chris was
born to be a racecar driver. From the time he was
a small child he has been involved in racing. He
grew up watching his dad race and at the age of
nine began racing Go-Karts. Chris remained in the
Go-Kart division for four years winning 15 features
and the points championship at Tyler Mountain Raceway
in 2000.
In 2001 Chris moved up to the
Semi-Late Model division winning 9 features over
three years. Then in 2005 Chris transitioned into
the Super Late Model division. To date in both Semi-Late
and Super Late divisions Chris has brought home
39 feature wins, numerous heat race wins, and three
track c hampionships.
Other
notable accomplishments include being the Dirt Track
Round-Up Rookie of the year in 2003 and in that
same year he was interviewed by Doc Lehman for an
article in Area Auto Magazine and Dirt America Online
titled “A Star is Born”. Chris has also
been featured in several dirt late model calendars
and was chosen to be one of 20 teenagers, the only
one from WV, to compete in The Future Dirt Track
World Championship.
